What to check in the UAE

• Ask the supplier which UAE conformity certificate applies to the exact electrical or electronic model, and match its model details and validity. MoIAT provides a public register with ECAS and EQM certificate types; a brand name alone does not identify a certificate. (MoIAT — Product Conformity Data (ECAS and EQM), accessed 2026-10-09)
• For a mains-powered appliance or its charger, check the supplied plug against the applicable UAE requirements and read the voltage and frequency on its rating plate. MoIAT’s low-voltage product guidance lists BS 1363 plugs and a separate BS 546 configuration for 15-ampere appliances. (MoIAT — Technical requirements for regulated products, rows 9, 11 and 28, accessed 2026-10-09 🟡 source under review)
• For a phone or a model with radio connectivity, check the TDRA conformity mark and approval details for the exact model. TDRA’s Type Approval Policy Version 4 covers telecommunications equipment and specifies display of the conformity mark on product packaging and online device pages. (TDRA — Type Approval Policy, Version 4.0 (21 January 2026), sections 9 and 10, accessed 2026-10-09 🟡 source under review)
• Keep the dated invoice: Federal Law No. 15 of 2020, Article 8(3)–(4), requires the supplier’s trade name and address, the goods or service details and price, and quantity where applicable. The invoice must be in Arabic; another language may be added. (ADDED — Federal Law No. 15 of 2020 on Consumer Protection (Arabic, original 2020 text; PDF pp. 7–8 / printed pp. 43–44), accessed 2026-10-09 🟡 source under review; U.ae — Consumer protection (notes the 2023 amendment; official secondary summary), accessed 2026-10-09 🟡 source under review)
• Federal Law No. 15 of 2020, Article 10(1), requires suppliers to honour warranties, provide required spare parts and maintenance, replace goods or refund their value, and provide after-sales service for the specified period. Before purchase, ask for the warranty period and the supplier’s service arrangements in writing. (ADDED — Federal Law No. 15 of 2020 on Consumer Protection (Arabic, original 2020 text; PDF pp. 7–8 / printed pp. 43–44), accessed 2026-10-09 🟡 source under review)
• Federal Law No. 15 of 2020, Article 12, requires a supplier discovering a defect in goods or services to repair or replace them, take the goods back and refund their price, or perform the service again without charge, subject to the implementing regulation. This provision addresses defects; it does not establish an unconditional change-of-mind return period. (ADDED — Federal Law No. 15 of 2020 on Consumer Protection (Arabic, original 2020 text; PDF pp. 7–8 / printed pp. 43–44), accessed 2026-10-09 🟡 source under review; U.ae — Consumer protection (notes the 2023 amendment; official secondary summary), accessed 2026-10-09 🟡 source under review)
• Federal Law No. 15 of 2020, Article 15, requires supplier contracts to include repair, maintenance, after-sales service, return, replacement or refund arrangements within a specified period after a defect appears, as set out in the implementing regulation. Ask the supplier for the applicable conditions and time limits before buying. (ADDED — Federal Law No. 15 of 2020 on Consumer Protection (Arabic, original 2020 text; PDF pp. 7–8 / printed pp. 43–44), accessed 2026-10-09 🟡 source under review)
